Limitation of Rutherford Atomic model

Rutherford atomic model is compare with Solar system model. But it could not compare with solar system completely. Planets are charge nutral, but electron revolving surrounding nucleus is negatively charged. In Rutherford model electron is considered as zero mass. But according to bohrs atomic model lower shell electron will be remain such distence from nucleus if the angular momentum of electron will be equal to nh divided by 2 pi. But we know no mass will result no angular momentum. Rutherford can not explain the spectra of hydrogen atom. If Rutherford model be correct, The release of energy during revolving surrounding nucleus will be continuously and In that course of action electron will be fall into nucleus according to Maxwell theorem. Hence, atom will be destroy. In really it does not happen. Hence Rutherford model is not correct.

Bohrs atomic model

After identifying the drawbacks of Rutherford atomic model it became important to establish a new atomic model that can able to describe spectra of hydrogen atom and that does not ignore the existence of universe. Bohr atomic model can solve the problem that excert from Rutherford atomic model. Read details   Bohrs atomic model

Bohrs atomic model

In order to overcome the limitation of Rutherford atomic model, Neils bohr introduces an atomic model. 1. Electron will revolve surrounding nucleus followed by specific orbit. Electron will not absorb or release energy until it jump to a one energy level to another energy level. 2. The distence of electron from nucleus will be remain such distence if angular momentum of orbitting electron will be equal to nh divided by 2pi. 3. The release or absorbtion of electron will be equal to hv, where h is planks constant.
